Would your family be interested in hosting a student from Spain during the summer? The Holidays in America program has been matching up teens from Spain with families in the Waukesha County area for over 15 years. These students are from the coastal city of Vigo in Northwest Spain. They come to Wisconsin to learn more about the US culture, practice English and to enjoy everyday life with their host family. While this experience is very special for the Spanish student, it can be very rewarding for the host family as well. The family has the chance to learn about the Spanish language and culture while welcoming the student as part of the family.
Specifics regarding the program:
- The students are here for 4 weeks (usually late June to late July).
- Families needed for boys/girls ages 13-17. Students and families are matched by age and
interests if possible.
-The Spanish students come with basic to intermediate abilities in English.
- Several group trips are planned (including Great America, Noah’s Ark, and Chicago). These
trips are optional for family members.
- The host student may travel with the family if a summer trip is scheduled. It is ok if they miss one of the group trips due to a family commitment.
- Students have their own insurance and bring their own spending money.
- Host families need to have someone home with the student. A flexible schedule is helpful.
- Alternate arrangements can be made if your family cannot host for a few days or a week.
- References available from past program participants.
